EVERYDAY KINGS w/ Dr. Chang, Fighting Man Dummy
The quartet avoids pinning itself to a specific genre by encompassing a wide range of sounds and styles on its three CDs, “Expectations” (2011), “Better Than Genuine” (2012) and “Turnstyle” (2014). From the bounciest, happiest pop on guitar-driven songs like “Sugarfoot” … to the deepest, darkest, stupor-inducing mood music of “On The Nod” … with a smooth balance of bluesy on “That Means Me” … and bright, sing-along harmonies on tunes like, “Gypsy Girl”; the band uses all of these elements for its solid, sonic foundation. Yet, you’ll never catch Everyday Kings taking themselves too seriously. Spin “Stalking Sarah” and try not to smirk at the topic.
